03 - INTO THE FOLD
GALA's third collection is a radical transformation of paper- & textile-based forms into works of jewellery.
Inspired by Japanese origami & contemporary textiles, INTO THE FOLD merges the boundaries of clothing & jewellery by intermixing the forms & materials chracteristic of each.
Real paper, recycled from the GALA studio waste bin, has been encased in fine layers of 24ct gold & nickel silver, exploring the regenerative potential of this material which we too often regard as 'disposable'. In contrast, state-of-the-art rapid-prototyping has been used to create solid brass forms which emulate sharp pleats with mathematical precision. Soft folds of premium leathers act as a warm relief from the angularity of these lustrous metal forms.
